Oyster Boat Terror is a beautifully restored 125 year-old sailing boat, used exclusively for the enjoyment of paying guests, their families and friends.
A memorable trip
on board
Terror
lasts for around two hours, visiting the
most beautiful parts of Emsworth Harbour.
The little inlets that wind right down to
Langstone and out in the channel leading to
the Solent. The activity of other boats and
the serenity of the wildlife is mesmerising.
And what's more,
every penny of your booking fee goes towards
preserving
Terror
for the benefit
of future generations — Oyster Boat
Terror
is run entirely
by volunteers and by the charity The Friends
of Chichester Harbour (charity number:
1051162).
As the last
remaining example of a gaff-rigged,
open-decked sailing boat,
Terror
is considered one
of the most beautiful sights seen in
Chichester Harbour.
Getting on board is
easy. Once there, it's the feel of the warm
wooden decks, the sheer majesty of the sails
being set and the feeling of stepping back
to a time when sailing was simple. The deep
wooden seats provide comfort and protection
for those on board. Terror sits low in the
water and with high side-decks, everyone on
board feels secure. She's quite wide in the
beam too, so nice and stable.
A trip on Terror is
the perfect opportunity to see close at hand
the variety of wildlife, in this Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty. With only six
people on board, taking time to appreciate
the breath-taking beauty of the Harbour is
simple.
Trips on
Terror
start and finish
at Emsworth Yacht Harbour, where there is
free parking and toilets. Rest in one of our
Terror
deckchairs
while waiting for the crew to collect you.
Nearby is the Deck Café, with splendid
marina views. It is open all day for
breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.
From
the moment
Terror
sets sail, the
fun begins.
Terror
passengers are
welcome to bring their own picnic (maybe
even Oysters and Champagne!) to enjoy during
their sail. Nearby is Thorney Island, a
great place for walks and wildlife watching
or take time to visit Emsworth with its
array of independent shops, cafés and
restaurants.
The skipper and
crew are happy to take sailors and
non-sailors out into the Harbour waters.
Some passengers like to be involved in
steering
Terror,
enjoying a turn on the helm and helping with
hoisting the sails. Each trip is different
and always enjoyable.
